Michel Mainil Quartet

Michel Mainil a une double personnalité. Derrière son côté affable, aimable, toujours à l'écoute des autres, se cache un jazzman. Un vrai, un pur. Peut-être même sa vraie identité !

Une personnalité qui éclate totalement, sans aucune retenue, tant dans son premier album "Water and other games" que dans son second, en septet celui-là, "Between the two solstices".

Peut-on le comparer à Sonny Rollins lorsqu'il tire de son saxo un son aussi chaleureux et feutré ou à John Coltrane lorsqu'il se met à le faire souffrir pour en sortir des sonorités audacieuses. Poser la question, c'est déjà y répondre. Et il y a pire comme comparaison.

Du jazz, du beau jazz ! Des standards ... (Lees meer) mais drôlement bien ficelés.

Des reprises de Sonny Rollins, Thelonious Monk, des Jazz Messengers, de George Gerschwin, des traditionnels de la Nouvelle-Orleans comme des compositions du répertoire brésilien.

Mais parlons de l'accompagnement.

Alain Rochette au piano s'adapte parfaitement bien aux différentes atmosphères et ce par un jeu précis, rythmé et vigoureux à souhait.

José Bedeur à la contrebasse impose avec la régularité du métronome le tempo et le batteur Antoine Cirri vibre parfaitement bien à l'unisson du quartet.

Quant à Michel Mainil, en parfait leader, il sait s'imposer tout en laissant suffisamment d'espace aux autres musiciens. Pas de notes inutiles, le respect d'une tradition acquise par sa longue expérience de sideman et de leader en Belgique et à l'étranger.

Un musicien en pleine maturité, que l'on sent bien dans sa peau, digne de figurer parmi le gotha du jazz européen. Une étape supplémentaire qui lui donnerait l'assurance nécessaire pour se laisser aller dans des compositions plus fortes, encore plus osées.

Ce troisième album a été enregistré live au Music Village à Bruxelles. Il donne bien l'atmosphère des clubs de jazz, à Saint-Germain ou ailleurs. C'est l'ambiance chère au film "Round' Midnight" de Bertrand Tavernier.

Christel Wautier Quartet

Influencée par la Soul, le R'n B, le gospel et bien entendu le jazz, Chrystel Wautier est une jeune chanteuse belge, considérée comme une des artistes les plus prometteuses de sa génération.

C'est en 2005 qu'elle trouve une réelle identité et une sonorité personnelle au sein de son trio et après quatre années de concerts (Belgique, France, Maroc...) elle enregistre en 2010 son second album "Peace of Time" avec comme invités Ben Sluijs et Cédric Raymond.
